INDIANOLA, Iowa – For just the second time in program history, the Simpson College women’s soccer team will compete in the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Tournament.
Simpson (15-2-2) earned an at-large bid to the NCAA postseason and will travel to La Crosse, Wis. to face St. Catherine in the opening round on Nov. 11. The winner will take on either Wis.-La Crosse or Wis.-Superior in the second round the following day.
The Storm finished the regular season with a 7-1 record in American Rivers Conference play, earning the No. 2 seed in the tournament. Simpson enjoyed a bye in the first round for the first time since 2006 and defeated third-seeded Luther 2-0 in the semifinals to advance to the championship match. The Storm battled top-seeded Loras for the conference’s automatic qualifying bid, but after 110 minutes, the score was still tied at 1-1 and went into penalty kicks. The Duhawks edged Simpson 3-2 in the shootout.
