Strong Storm performance propels them to top IIAC spot

The Simpson College Women’s basketball team was looking to continue their stellar season Saturday afternoon where they would be taking on yet another difficult opponent in Wartburg.

The Storm started out very strong in the game and would not let down as they ended up winning the game 66-57 over the Knights.

The Storm came into today’s contest with an overall record of 12-1, 2-0 in conference, while Wartburg came in to the match with an overall record of 9-4, 2-0 in conference. Despite the records of these two teams, they always end up playing a close and exciting game when they get together, which was precisely what happened this afternoon.

Both teams knew how important this game is early on in conference play so each team was playing extremely physical and full of energy. While the shots were not dropping for both teams like they would have liked, they started to take it into the paint early and often to see if they could get some free ones from the foul line. The games pace stayed relatively consistent with the Storm the whole game staying several points in front of the Knights.

Senior Kelsie Reeves motored the Storm early on to get them ahead where they would not need to look back. The Storm like usual were getting equal production from everyone that stepped out on the court for them.

That’s not all the good news the Storm got on Saturday.

Simpson is now in sole possession of first place in the IIAC after Loras defeated Coe.

The Storm will be in action again on Wednesday, January 16, at home, where they will look to take it right at Loras. Tip off will be at 6 p.m.
