STORM LAKE, Iowa – After a disheartening 4-3 defeat against Wartburg on Saturday, the men’s soccer team was eager to even up their IIAC record as they took on the Beavers of Buena Vista Wednesday.

The Storm had no problem dispatching of the Beavers, doubling their previous game-high in goals for the 2014 season with eight goals on the night.

Senior Mitchell White got the scoring started in the tenth minute off of a combined assist from Cody Jacobson and Josh Harry. Only nine minutes later, Kyle Kusy scored his second goal of the season and the second goal on the day for the Storm. White had a part in this goal as well, contributing with an assist. Spencer Cook sent the Storm into the half with a 3-0 advantage as he put a Nick Joslyn pass into the net in the 40th minute.

The Storm (9-4, 1-1 IIAC) did not relent, as they added five more goals throughout the second half. Goals came from Anthony Ashbridge (3), Collin Hemann (4), Connor Nightingale (1), and once more from both White (6) and Kusy (3). All of these goals were unassisted.

Goalkeeper Zach McEntee was only six minutes from his third shutout on the season until Alex Geaves got the Beavers (4-5-1, 0-2-0) on the board with their lone goal of the game, preventing the 8-0 shutout. McEntee made two saves on the night.

Simpson outworked the Beavers on all ends of the field, putting up 28 shots to a mere five from Buena Vista, while also winning the corner kick battle 11-2.

The Storm would like to bottle up this performance for their next matchup this weekend against nationally ranked Luther College. Simpson will head to Decorah to take on the 9-1 Norse at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
