Track & Field tunes up for IIAC indoor championship at UNI Dome Invitational

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Simpson College men’s and women’s track and field competed in their final tune up for the IIAC Indoor Championships coming up in Waverly next weekend at the UNI Dome on Friday.

While no team scores were recorded at the invitational, Simpson posted multiple top-three finishes, with the most notable being freshman Dylan Kalinay’s IIAC best time in the 60-meter hurdles.

While Kalinay finished fourth in the finals in the 60-meter hurdles, his top time came in the prelims as scampered across the finish line in a conference best, 8.33 seconds.

Success came for senior Bayley Fleshner in the same race as she recorded a tie for her season best in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing second with a time of 9.16 seconds. Her time was good enough for third amongst all IIAC competitors at the UNI Dome Invitational.

Men’s top finishers:

Tristan Twedt finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.05 as Trevor McKee and Tris Reed took third and fourth respectively.

Junior Nick Yaeger placed third of 21 runners in the mile run, finishing in 4:23.26

Isaac Frazier tied for second with UNI’s Shawn Koch in the high jump, posting a score of 1.95m in the finals.

Jackson Redmond placed fifth in the triple jump at 42-6 ¼, a season best.

Chris McKinnon also posted season-best numbers, coming in the shot put with at 44-3 ¼.

Women’s top finishers:

Lauren Martin took second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.25. Audrey Lovan (8.45) and Elizabeth Burgus (8.74) finished right behind Martin in third and fourth for Simpson.

Martin also did well in the 200-meter dash, placing fourth with a time of 27.90.

Courtney Neuendorf was the best Storm runner in the 800-meter, finishing in 2:27.37 to take fourth.
