Simspon Jumps out to Early Lead, Loses in OT

Simpson jumped out to their first lead of the season against Principia College but fall to the Panther’s in their second overtime loss of the year, 2-1.

Casey Relsen got the Storm (0-5) in front with a breakaway goal in the 22nd minute.

Despite allowing 19 shots, Simpson kept the Panthers (1-4) at bay until the 69th minute when Clarice Bruch hit a 30-yard bomb to tie the game at 1-1.

Kristin Riley had seven saves on the day but wasn’t able to Principia’s Gabrielle Martin out of the net as she scored the decisive goal in the 6th minute of overtime.

Saturday was the first time the Panthers have scored all season, while Simpson’s lone goal on the day brought their season scoring margin to a dismal 2-18.

Quick turnaround for Simpson as they battle Fontbonne on Sunday at 1 p.m.
