Simpson Scoring Drought Continues Against Fontbonne

by Brock Borgeson, Sports Editor

The Storm held Fontbonne to a scoreless tie until the 36th minute when Fontbonne’s, Kelly Hobbs gave the Griffins a 1-0 lead.

The Griffins never looked back, scoring in the 66th minute on a Kayla Thorpe goal, and again in the 72nd minute, this time it was Lyndsey Godier finding the back of the net.

The Storm (0-6) were only able to put up three shots on the afternoon while Fontbonne (5-1) sent an overwhelming, 25 shots on Simpson goalkeeper Kristin Riley. Riley did a good job Sunday, saving seven while keeping the Griffins to only three goals in a game that could have been much more lopsided.

Opportunities were few and far between as Fontbonne won the corner kicks battle 5-0. Heather Adolph and Mackenzie Stump were the only two who put shots on goal for the Storm.

Simpson is allowing 3.09 more goals per game than they’re scoring, while only putting up an average of 7.5 shots.

Simpson will try to turn the page as they finish off a long stretch of road games Wednesday at NAIA foe, Clarke University. This game will start at 2:30 p.m. in Dubuque.
