Second half surge silences Storm soccer

by Brock Borgeson, Sports editor

Coming off of a tough two-overtime loss to Grinnell College on Friday, Simpson women’s soccer (0-2) was itching to get into the win column against Nebraska Wesleyan University (2-0) tonight.

A combination of missed opportunities for the Storm and strong Nebraska Wesleyan offense lead to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Prairie Wolves.

The two teams were in a scoreless tie at the half until NWU’s Katelin Blosser put the Prairie Wolves up 1-0 in the 49th minute.

An inability to get any consistent threats going in the 2nd half kept Simpson down 1-0 until NWU widened their lead to 2-0 on Makensie Thaller’s goal in the 70th minute.

Nebraska Wesleyan widens their season scoring margin to 6-0 with today’s game while Simpson still looks for their first multi-goal game of the season.

Simpson travels to the College of St. Mary’s this Saturday, looking to secure their first win of the 2014 season. This game against the St. Mary’s Flames is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
