Men’s & Women’s Swimming & Diving Fall to Coe at competitive duel

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – After a buss malfunction prevented the men’s and women’s swim and dive team from heading to the Augsburg Pentathlon in October, the teams got their seasons underway Friday in a competitive duel with Coe College.

The teams were lead by a combined seven wins as the men lost a closely contested, 105-101 affair with the Kohawks. and the women dropped their first meet, 138-79.

The men won the 200-yard medley as Kyle McKim, Dylan Gray, Scott Wailes, and Michael Reuter finished 10 seconds ahead of the competition.

Nathan Schneider notched a 1000-yard freestyle victory of his own, as Kyle McKim won the 100-yard breaststroke.

JJ Hansen also placed first in the 1-meter diving competition.

For the women, Haley Blum took home the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:14.75.

The quartet of Christina Amburgy, Alex Vander Veen, Erica Carlson, and Tori Haag combined for a commanding victory in the 200-yard freestyle.

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving will be back in the water next Saturday as they head to Beloit, Wis. to face two Wisconsin schools in Ripon and Beloit College.
