INDIANOLA, Iowa – Simpson College swimming and dive welcomed Nebraska Wesleyan University to the Indianola YMCA Saturday for the Storm’s last of two home meets on the season.

12 individual first places finishes earned the Simpson women a 130-105 win against the Prairie Wolves as the men fell 145-108.

Megan Buitendorp took part in three first place finishes for the Storm, heading the women’s 200-yard medley relay with Haley Blum, Alex Vander Veen and Tori Haag. The four finished with a time of 2:03.55.

Buitendorp would also place first in the women’s 100-yard backstroke, finishing with a winning time of 1:08.42. Her third win came on a default in the 200-yard backstroke.

Katherine Rubins (1000 yard freestyle), Alex Vander Veen (200 yard butterfly) and Mackenzie Carson (1-meter dive) would also win by default.

Tori Haag swam a 26.97 to take the women’s 50-yard freestyle.

Men’s Swim & Dive: Simpson 108, Nebraska Wesleyan 145

 

All five of the men’s first place finishes came by default as the Prairie Wolves ousted the Storm by 37.

Kyle McKim (1:03.23 – 100 yard breaststroke), JJ Hansen (1 and 3 meter dive), Matt Van Brogen (500 yard freestyle – 5:56.18) and senior Nathan Schneider (200-yard IM – 2:13.06) all won by default, either swimming alone or accompanied by one other Storm swimmer.

McKim came close, finishing second in the 200-yard breaststroke and 200 yard IM, as Schneider earned two-second place finishes as well, in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke respectively.

Cody Carlson also placed second twice, in the 50-yard freestyle (23.21) and 200-yard freestyle (1:55.07)

Looking Ahead:

 

Saturday against Nebraska Wesleyan was Simpson’s final dual meet and final meet before the Liberal Arts Championships on Feb. 12-14 in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Here, swimmers will have a chance to qualify for nationals, taking place in Shenandoah, TX in mid-March.
