Track & Field combines for 8th place finish at Central Invitational

PELLA, Iowa – The Simpson College men’s and women’s track and field team drove out to Pella, Iowa for the Central College, Dutch Athletics Classic this past Friday and Saturday for an invitational involving 11 different teams.

The women placed last in their field of 11 teams, earning 12 points as the men placed 7th/10 with 39 points.

Together Simpson earned 51 points as they finished 8th/10 teams on the weekend, one point ahead of ninth place Ottawa University and 11.5 points behind Graceland University.

DII Truman State University would win the invitational, tallying 216 points as Morningside College finished in second with 187.5 points and Grand View University in third with 174.5.

Central College was the only other Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference school to compete in the open. They faired well against a stiff slate of DII and NAIA teams placing a combined, fifth, with 141 points.

Isaac Frazier finished fourth out of 10 competitors in the men’s heptathlon.

The quartet of Brice Sheeder, Brandt Seward, Triston Twedt and Trevor McKee ran a 3:33.79 in the men’s 4×400 meter relay to earn 6th/17.

Freshman Dylan Kalinay finished third in the men’s 55-meter hurdles.

Notable finishes for the women – senior Bayley Fleshner finished 5th/8 in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.81. She would also pick up a 6th/12 finish in the women’s long jump.

Next up for track & field as they move along in their indoor season is the Cornell Hilltop Open on Jan. 31.

The open will start at 10 a.m. at host Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
