Women’s basketball never trails, knocks off rival Central

PELLA, Iowa – After a poor offensive showing against Luther College on Wednesday, the Simpson College women’s basketball team rebounded with a 68-41 win over rival Central College Saturday.

The Storm lead the whole game after getting the 2-0 lead on a Britney Boland jumper at the 18:22 mark.

Simpson (15-6, 5-5) lead 37-19 at the half as Central (9-12, 0-10) shot 22.7 percent in the 1st half.

The Storm went to their bench frequently in the second half, getting points from 11 players as they ran away with a 27-point victory in Pella.

Once again, Simpson was outrebounded, this time 49-38, although the Dutch couldn’t convert, hitting only 17.6 percent of their shots.

MacKenzie Haupt scored a game-high 15 points, Brittany Hedrick scored 11, and Britney Boland scored 10 on 4-7 shooting.

Next up for Simpson is first place University of Dubuque at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, in Indianola.

Simpson currently sits all alone in fifth place, seeking to ensure their spot in the IIAC Tournament.
