Softball keeps rolling, picks up wins over Husson and Washington (Md.)

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Abbie Van Vleet and Riley Fisher both picked up their sixth win of the season on the mound as Fisher added a save to lead Simpson College to wins over Husson University, 4-2 and Washington College, 4-0 Monday.

Fisher came out in the first game, coming within two outs of a no-hitter, eventually recording the complete game shutout after striking out eight. Game two went to Van Vleet who pitched 5 1/3 before Fisher sealed up the save against Husson.

Game 1: W –  Simpson 4, Washington 0

A Rachel Guessford RBI single driving in Stacie Brown in the first inning was all the Storm needed as they cruised to a 4-0 shutout behind Fisher.

Simpson added two more runs in the fifth inning coming from an RBI double from Tori Haag and a Brown RBI single.

Ashley Prettyman rounded out the scoring with an RBI single in the sixth inning driving in freshman Annie Stolte.

Sydnee Schorr had 11 strikeouts for Washington (2-2) but couldn’t scatter five Simpson hits.

Fisher struck out eight, with a second inning walk and single in the seventh as her only hiccups in pursuit of pitching perfection Saturday.

Game 2: W – Simpson 4, Husson 2

Van Vleet matched Fisher winning her sixth game of the season, overcoming a first inning in which she allowed two runs and three hits as Simpson took down Maine’s, Husson College 4-2.

Van Vleet went on to fan four batters, scattering seven hits before Fisher earned the 1 2/3 inning save, allowing one hit in that outing.

Hailey Jensen came back with an RBI single in the bottom of the first making it 2-1 Husson after one.

Fisher came through at the dish homering to left to tie things up at 2-2 in the second inning.

Van Vleet helped her own cause, getting the game winning 2-RBI triple in the fourth, driving in Guessford and Haag.
