Men’s Golf kicks off spring season with 1st place finish

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Five Storm golfers finish in the top 10 as the Simpson College men’s golf team finished first in the Simpson Spring Invitational at the Indianola Country Club Thursday.

Senior Andy Hutchins shot an even par 71 to finish first in the field of 54 golfers, overcoming blustery conditions in a rare 80-plus degree day on Apr. 1.

Hutchins made par on 14 holes, compiling just two bogeys as he captured his second career first place finish.

The Storm were well ahead of the competition, ousting second place William Penn University by 18 strokes.

Marshall Kray was tied for eighth at 80 (+10) and Nick Hartman finished one stroke behind his teammate, finishing tied for 10th.

Shaan Desai (75) made three birdies to finish third and Trent Lindeman placed fifth at 78, +7 on the day.

Simpson will have to wait till next weekend to get on the links again as they head to Waverly for the Wartburg Spring Invitational on Apr. 10-11.
