There seems to be some miscommunication in The Simpsonian about the nature of the senior class gift. The senior class is asked each year to support The Simpson Fund, which provides scholarships and financial assistance to students.

The college asks all of its alumni to support The Simpson Fund each year. During their graduation year the seniors are also asked to participate.

To commemorate their graduation, the college honors the class with a gift, an item that is needed on campus.

The senior class gift is the contribution the seniors make to The Simpson Fund; the exercise equipment is given by the college in honor of their time at Simpson.
