Several writers will be reading from their own works during the Simpson Creative Writing and Reading Series Monday at 7 p.m. in Camp Lounge.

A showing of the documentary film, God Grew Tired of Us: The Lost Boys of Sudan, hosted by the RLC Social Justice Group and the Multicultural Students Association Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Jordan Lecture Hall.

A Career Essentials event will be hosted by the Careers Center Thursday at 7 p.m. in Jordan Lecture Hall for students on the hunt for jobs and internships.

Music performances

At 7 p.m. in the Great Hall the Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensemble will be hosting a joint concert on Thursday.

Mozart’s final opera, The Magic Flute, will be performed in Lekberg Hall by Simpson students Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. For information on how to get tickets and about the opera turn to page 10.

Breaking Barriers dives into controversial issues

Breaking Barriers takes an in depth look at controversial issues that are felt around the world and work to shed light on diversity throughout campus.

“Breaking Barriers is great because it gives students, along with the community, a chance to address and discuss important issues prevalent today,” senior member Monica Lovan said.

The discussions, which take place in the Carver Cultural Center, began on campus in 2004. The meetings are conducted by the members of the center and usually take place once a month.

Crime Log

The passenger side mirror of a student’s vehicle was broken off sometime between 7 p.m. and 8:45 a.m. on Oct. 8-9 while it was parked in the south Buxton parking lot. A report was filed with the Indianola Police Department (IPD) and the crime is still under investigation. The IPD has not cited any suspects in the case.
