Have you ever wanted to draw a nude model? Not everyone can have the privilege of being an art major, but Starving Artists Club is open to everyone. We are an organization freshly formed last semester.

You know those awesome table tents you saw last semester in Pfeiffer with all the art supplies in them? Yes, that was us. Those sweet paper cranes you’ve seen on the tables? Also us. Maybe you’ve even seen our posters around campus. We make sure to get creative with our outreach.

The Starving Artists Club is an organization that was developed last semester in attempt to allow students an outlet for creativity without academic connection and also to spread art throughout the Simpson and Indianola community. We participated in the Holiday Extravaganza, helping businesses on the Indianola town square paint their windows with a winter theme.

This semester, we are working on raising awareness and membership so we can eventually take over the world. Okay, maybe not the world, but the creativity on campus.

Our upcoming activity for Starving Artists Club is helping Sophia (feminist women’s social issues group) with their silent auction for the “Vagina Monologues.” We are creating and donating artwork to be sold in this auction. There is no limit to what or how many pieces you can create, within reason of subject matter.

Anyone in the Simpson community is welcome to join the Starving Artists Club. You don’t have to be an artist to be a part of the organization, but you do have to be able to draw stick figures. There are no requirements for being creative, and this is what we strive for. Meetings are held every Thursday night at 7 p.m. in room 100 in the Art Center.
