May Terms at Simpson College are often considered to be more relaxed compared to typical semesters, meaning there’s more time to do activities outside of class. While the activities you choose to participate in depend on your interests and available time, I’ll provide you with some examples to help you stay occupied during the three-week period.
There are some on-campus activities you could participate in, such as hanging around campus at Dunn Library or Kent Campus Center. You could also utilize the hammocks on campus for listening to music or with your close friends. You could also opt to take a sunset walk around campus or through the neighborhood.
You could also play pickleball or basketball, or drive to nearby parks or trails. You can have apartment hangouts, bonfires outside of Barker or just having a get together with friends.
You can have movie nights, game nights or go eat around Indianola with your friends.
During these food runs, you could get food from popular spots such as Brickhouse, Sports Page or La Casa. If you get food though, be sure to pick up a dessert afterward at The Outside Scoop or Muddy Puddles.
If you want to get out of Indianola, though, you could go to downtown Des Moines or Jordan Creek Mall in West Des Moines. At these locations, you could go shopping, check out restaurants and coffee shops or just walk around.
May Term is a time to relax and have a slower-paced lifestyle while balancing class. Try out one of these suggestions for a May Term you’ll never forget.
