Simpson College’s sorority life elected new officials to serve on the Panhellenic Executive Board – the committee in charge of overseeing sorority life on campus. The board is also in charge of sorority recruitment and works to bring Greek life on campus together.
The current Vice President of Internal Affairs for Panhel and soon-to-be President, Emma Haynes, spoke about what her goals for Panhel are this coming semester as well as some fun ideas that are in the works.
“We are hoping to bring together the Greek community through more events not only through the Panhellenic community but with the fraternities as well. Some ideas we have are having a karaoke night for Greek women and doing a Greek carnival at some point,” Haynes said.
The new Vice President of Internal Affairs, Alexis Ulrich, spoke about her inspiration to become a part of the Panhellenic Executive Board.
“I was inspired to join because of my passion for creating a supportive and inclusive community. Being part of this board is a chance to make a real difference and help our Panhel community grow stronger together,” Ulrich said.
Ulrich’s primary duties are to oversee the financial management of the Panhel council such as preparing the budget, collecting dues and maintaining accurate financial records. She also steps into the president role if they are unavailable.
Ulrich anticipates some challenges that come with being a part of the council but is ready to face any that arise.
“I anticipate challenges, like learning the specifics of the bylaws and procedures, balancing the different perspectives within the community and ensuring changes are fair and widely supported. I’m ready to listen, adapt and work through challenges to create a positive impact,” Ulrich said.
Ulrich has some personal goals that she looks to accomplish as well in this new position.
“I look forward to updating the bylaws to make them clearer, fairer and more inclusive. I want to create stronger communication between the chapters and foster a sense of unity within our community. I want everyone to feel as if they are heard and supported,” Ulrich said.
Incoming president, Emma Haynes, is aware of the responsibilities she will be tasked with and wants to provide a good environment for her new council members.
“My job as president is to be supportive. I am here to make sure my council members are happy and feel as if they are supported. We have council members in each different position so if I can help each one of those members in any type of way then I would love to,” Haynes said.
Current president, Memphis Dunsdon, will be ending her term as President and helped set up the line of succession for the new members.
“Memphis has done a really great job as president this last year. She made transition documents which help the current officers train the new officers which makes for a nice smooth transition,” Haynes said.
There is a scheduled training for the new officers on Nov. 20 where they will meet with the current officers to complete their training.
