Fall sports are in full swing and the Storm’s teams have taken some hits. Here’s this past week in Storm athletics. 

Volleyball 

The Storm volleyball team is 4-6 so far this season, winning both of their conference matches and beating undefeated Nebraska Wesleyan. Junior Jessica Jacobs has been a standout player for the Storm and has been named to two All-Tournament teams so far this season.

Women’s golf

The women’s golf has competed in four meets so far this season. Most recently, the team placed 5th at the Luther Invitational. Freshman Madeline Streicher tied for sixth place with 173 strokes.

Women’s tennis

On Sept. 18, Storm women’s tennis team lost 4-3 against Central. On Sept. 19, the team lost again 7-2 against Truman. 

Men’s tennis has only played one match so far. The Storm lost 5-4 against St. Ambrose on Sept. 18. 

Football

Simpson’s Football team is off to a rough start. The Storm has taken some hard hits this season. On Sept. 4 the team lost 84-6 against Mary Hardin-Baylor. Next, on Sept. 11 the team lost 34-7 against Wis.-Stevens Point. Most recently, the team lost 42-22 against Coe College on Sept. 18. 

During the Sept. 18 game, Junior Brett Bobinet threw for 309 yards. Joe McNally had 163 receiving yards on eight receptions. Hunter Ogle led Simpson with 54 yards rushing. 

Men’s soccer

Men’s soccer has been faring well this season. On Sept. 18, the Storm tied 2-2 with Wisconsin-Platteville. Fifth-year Enrique Idehen scored with 40 seconds left to go to overtime. 

Women’s soccer

Women’s soccer has a win-lose weekend. On Sept. 18, the Storm lost 3-1 against Wisconsin-Eau Claire, during this game, sophomore Brenny Frederick had a career-high nine saves. On Sept. 19th, the Storm won 1-0 against Wisconsin-River Falls – Abby Cozzoni was the lone scorer.
