Junior Brian Mann was recently named to the inaugural Verizon Academic All-America Men’s Soccer Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Mann was selected to the College Division (Division II-III) Third Team.

Mann, a member of the Iowa Conference All-Academic Team and a First Team All-Conference member, has a 3.94 grade point average as a math and computer science major. On the field, he anchored a Simpson defense that surrendered only 12 goals in 21 games (0.57 GAA, second in IIAC) and that posted 15 shutouts (third in IIAC).

As part of the overall expansion of the Verizon Academic All-America(r) program, a men’s soccer team was selected in the University (Division I) and College (Division II-III) Divisions for the first time in the history of the program. The Inaugural Women’s Team was announced Feb. 7.

To be eligible for Verizon Academic All-America(r) Team honors, an individual must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings, be a starter or key reserve, possess at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and must have been named to the Verizon Academic All-District Team announced in January. Mann was one of eight IIAC men’s soccer players named to the Verizon Academic All-District VII Team.
