Anti-bullying coverage appreciated, not without errors

by Letter to the Editor

First, I’d like to commend Emily Schettler for an informative, well-rounded piece on the “Think. Act. Build.” anti-bullying conference. Ms. Schettler did her homework well, and contacted a number of participants, including members outside the Simpson community. There are two factual errors in that piece.

First, the conference is targeted at eighth through twelfth grades, not eighth and ninth graders, as the original piece states.

Second, the piece suggests that the Education Department is is the only entity doing the hard work of planning and organizing. Not true: members across our division and members of the larger educational community in the greater Des Moines area have been very instrumental in its conception and organization.
