It’s the time of pep rallies, comedians, skits and the infamous Yell Like Hell. Homecoming is coming to Simpson Oct. 20-25.

“Our emphasis this year during homecoming is to get as many people involved as possible,” sophomore Steven Alan Ramsey, Homecoming co-chair said. “In the past it’s had a very strong Greek presence, and we’ve worked really hard to get away from that this year. Anyone can participate, and we encourage everyone to participate.”

CAB has been working for months to plan this year’s homecoming. The week will start off with a pep rally for all Simpson sports teams where the captains will be introducing their teams.

Junior Lexi Bruce, fellow Homecoming co-chair said this event will be one of the week’s highlights.

“I’m really excited this year because we’re doing a “Storm Rally” sort of like the ones most high schools do,” Bruce said. “I think it will be really good for school spirit so I think everyone should go and check it out!”

Wednesday, Oct. 21, the volleyball team will be taking on Wartburg at 7:30 p.m.

Also Wednesday, a new activity will be introduced to homecoming week: Float, Sink, or Swim. Participating groups will make a boat out of cardboard and duct tape and they will have to float (sink or swim, depending on their boat) to the other side of the pool.

Hump Day Has will feature comedian Alexendra McHale in the Storm Street Grill at 10 p.m.

Thursday will hold two different activities. Throughout the day, teams will participate in the Simpson Olympics. There will be traditional skits in the evening. The skits are of groups of people performing their representation of the homecoming theme.

Friday holds one of Homecoming’s most popular events, Yell Like Hell. Yell Like Hell has been a long-standing tradition at Simpson homecoming. Groups compete stomp performances, and the cheerleading and dance teams also perform.

The homecoming football game against the Wartburg Knights will take place Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Student Government will be sponsoring dress-up days all week. Everyday members of Student Government will be out taking pictures and awarding prizes to the best dressed.

“Our primary focus this year is to really vamp school spirit,” Ramsey said. “The buildings aren’t what make up Simpson College, it’s the students and the professors. We can build a community with our school spirit.”

Bruce agrees.

“Obviously I want people other than Greeks to come out for events, and I really want people to get excited about all the sports teams,” Bruce said.” “Our school has been lacking in spirit the last few years and I really hope to increase that during Homecoming.”

“We’ve really worked hard,” freshman football player Sam Elsner said. “We’d love everyone to come out and support us to really show Wartburg that the tables have turned.”
