After being rejected for four years, the Simpson Storm can finally say they defeated the Central College Dutch. “It’s an indescribable feeling,” said wide receiver Billy Weathers. “WE haven’t done this until now. The team chemistry today was unbelievable.”The ironic thing about the flow of the game is that the Storm didn’t do it with the air, but with their feet. Simpson ended up with 152 rushing yards on the cloudy, cool afternoon. “We’ve worked on the running game all week, really putting a focus on getting the ball on the ground,” said Simpson running back Michael Chia. “All the credit goes to the O-Line for their hard work today. They’re the ones who got it done.” Most of the rushing yards went to quarterback Taylor Nelson, who rushed for 86 yards. However, Chia ran for a season-high 28 yards against Central before leaving in the second quarter with a leg injury. “I have to get prepared to do rehab with Mike (Hadden) this week,” Chia said. “I have to be out there for my teammates, and this week will be huge for me.” Meanwhile, Weathers believed in the offensive line the whole time despite the lack of the ground game. “We’ve always had faith in our O-Line, we always knew that they could do what they do best, and today we showed that,” Weathers said. The ground game did come from Nelson, who usually makes the stat sheet by his arm. “He’s just been a great leader for us,” said Head Coach Jim Glogowski. “He really did it with his legs today.”Glogowski points out that the rushing struggles has been due to in part of not letting Nelson run the ball.“We haven’t really went much into having Taylor run the ball as much as we did last year,” said Glogowski. “When you spread teams out, that certainly allows them to key on the one back.”Even though Glogowski was one of the very few who have beaten Central as a member of the Storm, he was just as excited to beat the Dutch and giving the Storm its best start since 2003 with a 4-1 record.
