Putting the pastor out to pasture: Fritz Wehrenberg announces retirement

by Amanda Hintgen

Chaplain Fritz Wehrenberg has recently announced his retirement at the end of the current academic year.

In his retirement announcement, Fritz quotes Neil Young in his song “Comes a Time” released in 1978.

Comes a time when you’re driftin’

Comes a time when you settle down

Comes a light feelin’s liftin’

Lift that baby right up off the ground.

Oh, this old world keeps spinning round

It’s a wonder tall trees ain’t layin’ down

There comes a time.

-Neil Young

Fritz feels that the words of Neil Young capture his feeling towards the decision of retirement. His time at Simpson College has been a joy throughout all of the many experiences that he has been a part of and looks forward to his last semester.

Throughout the process of finding a new Chaplain for Smith Chapel, Fritz encourages that students will participate actively in the search for a new Chaplain with not only support for the search committee and the possible candidates, but also with prayers.
