Stripping for a Cause

The men of Lambda Chi Alpha are in the works of raising food and monetary donations for their philanthropy event, The North American Food Drive.

All of the proceeds go to Helping Hand located here in Indianola, serving members of the Warren County community. Lambda members have fundraised in a variety of ways.

“We handed out flyers at different grocery stores and stood outside asking for either food or monetary donations,” junior and member of Lambda Chi Alpha Nathan Liston said.

The house titled a recent fundraising event “Stripping for a Cause”.

“Stripping for a Cause was just a name given to it when we stood on the street corner wrapped in only cardboard,” Liston said. “It was simply a method to gain attention and it definitely worked.”

Currently, the house has raised 1,300 pounds of food and $801.53. The house set a goal of raising 4,500 pounds of food or $1,000.

“As a national fraternity, our goal is to raise 2 million pounds of food to help local food pantries across the nation,” Liston said.

Lambda Chi Alpha currently has 33 members and adheres to the same values as the National Guard: Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Service and Stewardship, Honor, Integrity and Personal Courage.

The food drive is a yearlong event. The next proposed way of raising donations is to send bags to houses in the Des Moines area asking for donations. Also, look for emails starting up again next semester promoting the fundraiser.

The North American Food Drive is not the only fundraiser the men of Lambda do.

“Our other major philanthropy event is Teeter-Totter-A-Thon where we have brothers on a teeter-totter for 24 hours straight at different locations in the area,” Liston said. “We collect monetary donations that go to either the Children’s Cancer foundation or to help with research with Cystic Fibrosis.”
