Freshmen play with level of seniority in big IIAC win

The Simpson College Women’s Basketball team was facing Coe Monday evening as they looked stay on top in conference despite the game being a nail biter until the final seconds where they prevailed 58-56.

The Storm came into today’s match with a record of 15-1, and 5-0 in conference. Coe, who find themselves in the middle of the conference this year, when they were expected to win the conference, comes into the game with a record of 10-6, and 3-2 in conference.

Despite Coe going into halftime up 30-24, they played very similar to each other in regards to shooting as well as limiting the amount of turnovers. The majority of the production was coming from seniors Nicole Crisp as well as Kate Nielsen. It was going to take more than just these two to beat the rival Kohawks who seemed to being on their game tonight.

In the second half the Storm came out right away scoring a three pointer to close the gap to three points. Unfortunately for the Storm, Coe decided they were not going to let any momentum slide away from them as they went on a 7-0 run. The Storm answered this run shortly after with a run of their own as they went on an 8-0 run taking the lead 38-37. Simpson was not going to fall behind again. It was a battle all the way to the finish and the girls came away with another huge victory in conference.

Offensively the Storm picked it up, and got contributions from everyone in the second half. Simpson beat Coe virtually the same way that they had to take care of Dubuque.

They had to find a way to get back into the game and make sure they were not going to give it up again. This team continues to show many what it takes to be elite as well as have great team chemistry and not panic when down, even by double digits.

The Storm improve to 6-0 in conference and look to make it 7-0 as they take on Central at home Wednesday, January 23. Tip off will be at 6 p.m.
