The Simpson College Women’s Basketball team was facing off against Buena Vista Wednesday evening as they went on to stay perfect in conference winning 76-42 on a dreary winter day.

The Storm came into today’s match with a record of 18-1, and 8-0 in conference. Buena Vista, on the other hand, has had a season to forget. They came into today’s match at 8-11 overall, and 1-7 in conference, giving them a strong bid for last place.

On a day like today, it would be hard to come out and play at the top of their game, but it never ceases to amaze Simpson that the Storm come out and dominate like everyone expects them too regardless of any conflicts that stand in their way.

Buena Vista had an early 11-8 lead eight minutes into the game that forced Head Coach Brian Niemuth to call a timeout, but after that, Simpson put it into cruise control.

The Storm and Beavers got off to a similar pace early on in the game, but once the Storm went on a solid run the beavers were toast. Simpson played with a lot of focus and energy on defense creating many missed shot for the Beavers. The offense played another spectacular game shooting nearly 50% from the field in the first half, which is an excellent night for any team. Simpson went into the half up big 40-25.

In the second half the Storm picked up right where they left off adding on to the lead. Midway through the second half it was a blowout with Simpson up by nearly 30 points where they could slow the pace of the game down. After a stellar performance on both ends yet again by the Storm, they cruised to the finish continuing the dreadful season for the Beavers, and a magical season for the Storm.

Senior Chelsie Rohrs, a three point threat for the Storm, is very pleased with the results of the season so far, but at the same time is not surprised. Rohrs said, “I think our season is playing out just like I thought it would be. We set a tone in our preseason, and it has carried over into our regular season. I think our team chemistry is the best it has ever been, and it definitely shows when we play together out on the court.”

The Storm will be in action again looking to stay perfect in conference as they take on Luther at home Saturday at 2 p.m.
