Men’s golf with a top five finish in final fall invite

OSKALOSSA, Iowa – Men’s golf finished a collective 5th/16 teams at the William Penn Invite on Saturday to conclude their fall season.

The field consisted of primarily NAIA and community college squads, with Central College being the only other Division III team joining Simpson in the 16 team field.

The Dutch ended up winning the tournament, shooting a team 565 (+5) on the day, 13 strokes ahead of second place William Penn.

William Penn’s, Frederik Lundsgaard lead all golfers, shooting a tournament low, 139 (-1).

Simpson was all-alone in fifth place, finishing +36 after shooting 596. The Storm held the fifth place position after both days of competition.

Senior Andy Hutchins continued his solid season, leading Simpson with a fourth place finish in the field of 85, shooting a 141 (+1) over two rounds.

Junior Trent Lindenman, coming off of Simpson September Student-Athlete of the month honors, wasn’t far off the pace, finishing T-11th shooting +6 for the invite.

Other Finishers for Simpson:

Nathan Molstead: T-21 – 150 (+10)

Nick Hartman: T-57 – 159 (+19)

Jimmy Siebert: T-70 – 164 (+24)

This past weekend’s invite in Oskaloosa marks the end of the fall season for men’s golf, which was a very successful tune-up for their championship season in the fall.

Men’s golf took top five finishes in five out of seven of the invitational tournaments they competed in, including two first place finishes and one second place finish.

Lindenman lead all Simpson golfers in individual play, notching three first place finishes.

Simpson hopes to carry over this success into 2015 as they take on their all important spring season.
