Men’s swimming and diving goes 2-1 on weekend trip

Friday, Nov. 21 – Simpson 97, Loras 110

Simpson men’s swimming and diving lost a closely contested dual meet to Loras this past Friday as they fell to the Duhawks 110-97.

The men’s swim team took home five individual victories, beginning with senior Nathan Schneider who placed first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 12:17.19.

Schneider would later follow up with another victory in the 500 freestyle, finishing in 5:44.13.

Junior Kyle McKim would also add two individual victories for the Storm, winning in the men’s 200 IM as well as the 100 breaststroke.

The fifth individual victory came from Cody Carlson who came in first in the 100 freestyle.

In diving, JJ Hansen placed first in the 1 mtr dive.

Saturday, Nov. 22 – Simpson 71, Beloit 50

Simpson 64, Ripon 51

Men’s swimming and diving responded with two victories on Saturday, taking down to Midwest Conference teams in Beloit and Ripon.

Simpson came away with seven individual victories, beginning with James Tillison who took first in the 1000 yard freestyle.

Carlson added another first place finish to his weekend, taking first in the 200 yard freestyle.

McKim took first in two events on Saturday, both coming in breaststroke as he won the 100 and 200 yard heats.

The 26th event of the afternoon would go to Nathan Schneider who won the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:17.58.

Schneider, Tillison, Carlson and Scott Wailes would then combine to give Simpson a victory in the 200 yard freestyle relay.

With Simpson’s two wins on Saturday, the Storm even up their record at 2-2 on the weekend.

Men’s swimming and diving won’t be back in action until Friday, Dec. 5 as they head to Grinnell for the Pioneer Class Invitational.
