GRINNELL, Iowa – The Simpson College swim and dive team continued to have its struggles this past weekend as both the men’s and women’s teams placed second to last in their lines of competition.

Men’s Swim & Dive Results:

The men placed 5th/6 teams with a score 332 amongst a field including schools like Grinnell College, Luther College, Coe College, Gustavus Adolphus College, and Augustana College.

Grinnell finished first in the men’s heat with 1212 points, followed by Gustavus Adolphus in second. Luther took fourth as Coe was last.

No men competitor finished in the top three. The best finishes for the men came from Dylan Gray who took fourth in the 50-yard freestyle and Kyle McKim who placed fourth in the 100-yard freestyle.

Gray posted a time of 22:79 and McKim 1:02.74.

These two combined for the team’s best medley relay of the weekend, taking seventh in the 200-yard medley relay. McKim and Gray combined with Carlson and Schneider for a time of 1:44.72.

In diving, JJ Hansen placed fourth in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dive.

Women’s Swim & Dive Results:

The women placed second to last as well, finishing 9th/10 with 150 points.

The University of Nebraska – Omaha placed first with a score of 1067. Gustavus Adolphus put up 922 points to finish second as host Grinnell College was right behind in third with 919 points.

Simpson was joined by two other IIAC foes in Luther and Coe College who placed fourth and sixth respectively.

The women had trouble breaking the top of the competition this weekend as the highest any Storm swimmer placed was Haley Blum who took 16th in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:43.08.

Blum also finished 18/30 in the 100-yard breaststroke.

The best medley finish for the women came in the 200-yard freestyle relay

The team of Tori Haag, Megan Buitendorp, Erica Carlson and Haley Blum put together a time of 1:50.21 to take 17/26.

Looking Ahead:

This is the last of two trips for Simpson to Grinnell.

The lone meet remaining before the Liberal Arts Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Feb. 12-14 comes next Saturday, Jan. 24 as the Indianola YMCA will host Nebraska Wesleyan University at 12 p.m.
