Energy drinks have always been a popular beverage for college students, from Monster, Red Bull or even the fan favorite, Alani. Recently, however, there have been new ways to consume energy drinks, as people are beginning to add different types of flavored syrups, creamers and cold foams to make delicious sugary drinks.
Spark Energy Bar, the new energy drink spot, is already bringing excitement to campus and the Indianola community. It feels like the right fit; from running to class and trying to get through a long day of homework, or just wanting a “pick me up” drink, Spark is a good option to have close by.
The first time I went to Spark, I had no idea what to expect. There was word going around talking about their menu offering “dirty sodas” and “dirty Alanis,” but I wasn’t understanding the hype until I saw the menu. Right away, the place offers an aesthetically pleasing appearance, with pink and purple colors, light-up signs and comfortable seating. It’s the perfect place to relax while having a fun drink.
What makes Spark different from other drink places I’ve been to was the variety of options on the menu. Instead of picking a predetermined drink, you get to customize almost everything. The prices are very reasonable, ranging from $3 to $6, making it perfect for college students who don’t want to spend a lot on a drink. There is the option, however, to order off their predetermined drink menu, but you can also add flavors, creams and other mix-ins depending on what you’re in the mood for. This makes your drink feel more personal.
Another factor that really stood out to me was the number of options they have. Hyper is another popular energy drink place people go to, but they don’t have dirty sodas, cold foam or a wide variety of energy drink options.
With a Spark Energy Bar, their dirty soda options are endless. For those who have never had a dirty soda, it’s soda mixed with different syrups and cream. It may sound odd at first, but it actually tastes really good. The flavors are a nice mix of sweet and refreshing, especially on a warmer day. It’s certainly different from your usual drink, which makes it fun to try.
When I went, I tried one of the drinks I had overheard people talking about, and it was their Alani drinks. I got a cotton candy Alani with blue raspberry and cotton candy cold foam, and added marshmallow fluff. With all of the different flavors, I wasn’t sure how it would taster, but it ended up being so good. The flavors blended nicely, with a perfect mix of sweet and refreshing.
I could easily see this becoming a regular stop for many Simpson students. It’s within walking distance from campus, super convenient and the prices are reasonable. The employees are very welcoming and are helpful in giving you recommendations on what drinks to try. If you’re wanting a fun drink to get you through your day, I would recommend giving Spark Energy Bar a try. It’s different from typical drink places, and it gives students something new to look forward to.
