The 29th season of “The Bachelor” has concluded in the most awkward fashion. Whether you watched the season finale live or relived it through TikTok, there is certainly a great divide among Bachelor Nation. 31-year-old Grant Ellis, formerly of Jenn Tran’s Bachelorette season, was the star of the show starting Jan. 27.
Many were skeptical from the jump when just prior to the premiere, Ellis released his first single, “Party Girl.” The song was a flop, and many fans read into the lyrics, trying to predict the winner of the season.
In the final episode, Grant was forced to choose between his final two girls, Litia and Juliana. Litia was the public favorite and exactly what Grant himself said he had wanted since day one. His connection with Litia was so strong that he even made comments about ending the show early to be with her. Little did viewers know, it was all just a lie, or more possibly, Ellis running from the truth.
Fans were shocked to see Litia step out of the car first in the finale. For those who need context, the girl sent first is the runner-up; she just does not know it yet. Litia went in as confident as could be just to be blindsided by lies and a completely different Ellis.
Ellis had said since the beginning of the show that he was looking for someone ready to get married and have children. Litia had been just that all season. The night before the proposal on his final date with Litia, Ellis seemed to be eating his own words, questioning whether or not he wanted to have children right away. Essentially contradicting everything he had been saying all season. The real jaw-dropping news is what was said off-camera for weeks.
As Ellis left Litia that evening, he reassured her yet again that they would be getting engaged the next day. In fact, Grant had been making this promise to Litia since week two of the show, even going as far as telling Litia’s mother on a Facetime call that she was the one for him.
Fast forward to the next day, Grant went back on everything he said to Litia, claiming he wasn’t the one for her. In the most poised way, Litia called Ellis out and destroyed him on live television, leaving him at a loss for words. Then, in her interview with the show’s host, Jesse Palmer, Litia recalled every detail and time Ellis assured her they would be getting engaged at the end of the show.
Many fans have taken to their own accounts, claiming that Litia should not have done what she did and that her feelings are not valid. She shouldn’t have called Ellis out for lying to her for weeks. She shouldn’t have exposed him on national television for backstabbing her and then brushing it off and getting engaged moments later. I’ll leave you with this question: If your significant other did this same thing to you, on the verge of an engagement when you could see your future right in front of you, how would you feel? Litia could have gone much further and absolutely wrecked Ellis, but rather, she handled it with grace, happy to leave him in her past.
