SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The Simpson women’s basketball team got out of Iowa just in time as central Iowa was hit with snow. They brought good fortune with them, going 2-0 against the Coast Guard and Lebanon Valley to improve to 7-4 on the season.

Monday, Dec. 28 vs. Coast Guard – Simpson 57, Coast Guard 46

Simpson never trailed, getting out to a 19-10 lead after the first quarter as they defeated the Coast Guard in the Storm’s first game since Dec. 12.

Three players put up double-figures for Simpson, led by Mackenzie Haupt who scored 16 on 6 of 11 from the floor.

The Storm shot just 3 of 12 from 3-point range but made up for it by outscoring Coast Guard 28-18 in the paint, 14 of which came from Noreen Morrow in the post.

Tuesday, Dec. 29 vs. Lebanon Valley – Simpson 54, Lebanon Valley 53

Noreen Morrow converted on 1 of 2 free throws with one second left as the Storm dropped Lebanon Valley to 8-3.

Morrow put up her sixth game in double-figures, putting up a 12 point and 12 rebound double-double.

Simpson held 29-23 lead at the half, but the Dutchmen rallied to outscore Simpson in the fourth quarter and nearly come back to win.

Britney Boland scored eight and had 12 rebounds in a back-and-forth, tight-game.

Simpson is now 6-1 in the last calendar month and are on a three-game winning streak.

Looking ahead

Non-conference play is behind Simpson now as it kicks of Iowa Conference play on Jan. 6 at Buena Vista.
