According to the FBI Omaha and Kansas City divisions, the FBI is not involved in the BSU zoom bombing that took place in early September. 

Catherine Cole, Simpson College’s Vice President of Marketing and Strategic Communication, did not comment on whether or not the FBI is involved. 

“In order not to jeopardize the on-going investigation, Simpson College will not be commenting further except to confirm that we have learned the investigation is now being conducted by the Indianola Police Department,” Cole said. “They will, in turn, keep the appropriate law enforcement agencies updated as necessary based on their findings.” 

In the emails sent out Sept. 3 and 4 in the diversity equity and inclusion updates, the school stated that the FBI was involved. 

“Other initiatives/activities: Investigation into the perpetrator of Tuesday’s Zoom bombing with our own IT department, Indianola Police Department and the FBI,” Cole said in the Sept. 3 DEI update. 

Amy Adams, Public Affairs Specialist for the Omaha division, divulged this information in an email to the Simpsonian. 

“The Omaha FBI field office is not involved,” Adams said.  “However, the FBI recommends exercising due diligence and caution on any video-teleconferencing (VTC) platforms.”

The Kansas City division was reached via phone call and stated that the zoom bombing would have fallen under the jurisdiction of the Omaha division, as all of Iowa is overseen by the Omaha headquarters.
