Q: What activities are you involved with on campus?

A: What am I involved with on campus? Oh geez, my three main areas I’m involved with are the computer science department, I am the publicist for the computer science club and I am a computer science major. I am also currently the RLC Interfaith intern, so I put a lot of work in with RLC, which has been phenomenal, and I also do a lot of work with the theatre department. Minor things that I’m involved in: I attend Dance Club on occasion when I get to, I try to go to Fandom (Club) if I get the chance, go to CAB events when I get the chance, I work at Mango/Millie’s on the weekends. Mostly just computer science, RLC and theatre, I don’t really have a life outside of that.

Q: That has your experience at Simpson been like so far?

A: My experience at Simpson so far has been chaotic good, I’m going to phrase it that way. (…) So my experience has mostly been just crazy, a lot of good, been able to participate in a lot of really amazing organizations, been able to do a lot of really cool things on campus, classwork, getting to meet a lot of amazing people, and exploring Des Moines. 

Q: What is your favorite Simpson memory been so far?

A: My favorite Simpson memory so far has to be between one of two things. Probably as insane as it was, “These Shining Lives” was a great show, wouldn’t do it again but it was a great show. It was absolutely insane, but we came up with such a good product, we were all so proud of that show. And being able to get involved with interfaith and RLC a lot more this year, being able to start the D.I.V.E group, being able to run interfaith events, [and] site visits. Site visits are up there as well, so being able to just have new experiences in a state that I didn’t grow up in.

Q: What is D.I.V.E.?

A: D.I.V.E. is discussing individual values and ethics, it is a small group that I started on campus. It is a non-religious discussion group that is here to provide community for non-religious students who like discussing values and ethics outside of the boundaries of religion.

Q:  What is your plan post-graduation?

A: My plan post-graduation at this point is to take a gap year by working in a computer science field. Then looking at going to grad school after that to get a master’s in computer sciences.

Q: What would be some advice you would give to underclassmen?

A: I knew this question was coming. The best piece of advice that I can give is be heavily involved in at least one thing outside of classes because you’ll find such a good community and such a great support group by getting involved in clubs and activities, or RLC, Greek Life, theatre, any organization. Just get involved with something that is not classwork.

Q: What are you going to miss most about Simpson?

A: What am I going to miss most about Simpson? Definitely the people, I’m going to miss all of my professors. I’m going to miss all of the lovely students I have gotten to spend so much time with and just being able to really have that connection with people here on campus.
