The Simpson men’s basketball team swept Loras and Dubuque this past weekend to put themselves at 6-3 in the Iowa Conference.

“We played pretty well our last two games. We know we can do better, but right now we are moving in the right direction,” said junior Matt McCulla.

Against Loras, Simpson won 75-54. Junior Jesse Harris led all scorers with 18 points.

Sophomores Josh Richter and Matt Brown had 13 and nine points respectively. McCulla led the Storm with 8 rebounds while sophomore Dirk Walker handed out 5 assists. As a team the Storm out rebounded the Norse 49-34.

“We just have to make sure that we are keeping focused because in our conference you can’t overlook anyone,” said junior Tom Tesar.

“We are capable of winning every game here on out.”

The Storm beat Dubuque on Saturday night 73-57. Harris once again led all scorers with 21 points. Brown had 10 points, eight rebounds and four steals in the game while McCulla had eight rebounds and Walker dished out four assists.

Harris has moved to 10th in the scoring chart for Simpson College with 1,065 career points. He is just 24 points away from moving into ninth place.

“If we execute a little more on offense and keep playing hard defense, we should be able to go the distance,” said McCulla.

The Storm travels to Buena Vista and Wartburg this weekend. Both teams defeated Simpson earlier this season.

“This weekend is huge for us. It will be a good test to see how much we have improved since the last time we played them,” said Tesar.
