Simpsonian wins state press award

The Simpsonian’s coverage of the events of Sept. 11 was voted best among the state’s private colleges at Friday’s convention of the Iowa College Media Association.

Simpsonian staffers worked in the days after the terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington to cover in words and pictures the ways that the story was affecting students and faculty at Simpson. The coverage was led by Patrick File, the current editor of The Simpsonian, and Lindsey Masters, who was managing editor during fall term.

Winning second place in the competition was The Trumpet, the student newspaper at Wartburg College in Waverly. The Tack, Buena Vista University’s student newspaper, won third place.

The Iowa State Daily won the Sept. 11 coverage competition for daily student newspapers. The North Iowa Area Community College Logos won the competition among the state’s community colleges.
