As her final year of school comes to an end, senior Sara Jensen is doing all she can to make sure that she is contributing in and out of class.

Jensen is a distance runner on the women’s track team and she has already taken on many tasks to help her team out.

“It’s nice. I’m a senior and I have been working hard to be able to do the best that I can,” Jensen said.

At the Iowa State Last Chance Qualifier March 1, Jensen ran the mile only. But in that one race, she set a personal record by running a 5:14.

Compared to Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Invitational Feb. 22-23, the Iowa State Last Chance Qualifier was a walk in the park. Jensen ran in a total of five different events at the IIAC Invitational and she scored points for the Storm in all five of those events.

“There aren’t that many people on the team, so those of us that are on the team have to work very hard to get the team the most possible points,” Jensen said.

Jensen placed sixth in both the 1000m and the 1500m. The women’s distance medley relay team, which Jensen is on, also finished in sixth place. The two other relay teams that she is on, 4×200 and 4×400, both finished eighth.

The attitude and way that Jensen approaches running is similar to the way that she approaches the things that she is involved in. Jensen takes what she gets from track and applies it to her involvement with Kappa Kappa Gamma and The Simpsonian advertising staff.

“I’m a distance runner and that is something you have to work hard at everyday,” Jensen said. “It motivates me to work hard at everything else that I do.”
