Valentine’s Day comes and goes every year.

Some of us dress in black to protest, while others get romantic with significant others.

Too few of us correlate Valentine’s Day with V-Day, a time to recognize the need to stop domestic violence against women.

This year, senior Aimee McCabe is making sure V-Day won’t pass Simpson College unnoticed, by bringing us “The Vagina Monologues.”

Students should not let the opportunity slip by to support this fundraiser to fight domestic violence against women in conjunction with V-day awareness.

According to the National Clearinghouse for the Defense of Battered Women, the American Medical Association estimates that over 4 million women are victims of severe assaults by boyfriends and husbands each year. About 1 in 4 women is likely to be abused by a partner in her lifetime.

On a campus where women outnumber the men, strong support for such an important cause should not be hard to gather.

Support this cause by purchasing tickets at $5.00 for either showing on Feb. 27 or 28, at 7:30 p.m. in Pote Theater. Tickets can be purchased from cast members or the Simpson Box Office.

“I want to be clear that ‘The Vagina Monologues’ is not bashing men, but rather about celebrating women and their sexuality,” said McCabe.
