New York, Houston, San Fransisco, Vienna, Austria, and finally Indianola.

Bruce Brown found a home at Simpson College.

Brown is a new faculty member at Simpson and was hired as an instructor of music.

Brown has a long history in the world of music.

After finishing undergraduate studies at Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa, Brown pursued and completed his graduate studies at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas with a degree in voice.

Brown’s performing history is what built his positive image of Simpson College.

As a young opera singer, Brown performed under the direction of Dr. Robert L. Larsen, a professor of music at Simpson.

He also worked with Maria DiPalma, the chair of Simpson’s Music Department.

Brown has even performed with Simpson graduates on the stage. He has toured with Opera Iowa, introducing opera to a younger generation.

When Brown applied for the job at Simpson, he knew the position was what he was looking for.

“Since I’ve arrived, I have not been disappointed in the quality of students or the music program,” said Brown.

As a new faculty member, Brown only teaches applied voice lessons, but will be given classes starting next year.

He looks forward to the opportunity to teach voice classes, but with 24 private students this year, being bored isn’t a problem.

Morgan Hazelbaker, a student of Brown’s, had positive things to say about the instructor.

“I’ve enjoyed studying under Brown and look forward to learning more from him as the year goes on,” said Hazelbaker.

During May Term, Brown will assist Larsen and DiPalma with Opera Scenes.
