Students experience life in poverty through simulation

This past Sunday, April 15, many students and faculty members took part in a Community Action Poverty Simulation. The activity forced those involved to budget for basic necessities and shelter during four 15-minute “weeks.”

Participants played different roles in the family as well as members of the community including human service agencies, police officers, bill collectors and job interviewers.

The simulation allowed participants to get a better perspective as to what it is like to live in poverty and forced them to look at ways in which to improve the community.
