Law Abiding Citizen Banks on Your Box Office Buck

If you’re looking for an action-packed thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat, “Law Abiding Citizen” is a must-see movie for you.

The movie features Gerard Butler, whose character first loses his wife and daughter and then must watch as the murderers are set free due to loopholes in the system. Jamie Foxx plays the district attorney who finds himself at the mercy of Butler for letting the murderers get away without prison time.

The beginning of the movie opens as Clyde (Butler) and his daughter are making bead necklace when there is a knock at the door. Instantly after the door is opened, Clyde gets hit in the head with a baseball bat and lies on the floor helplessly watching as his wife and daughter are raped and murdered.

Clyde wants justice, and when he doesn’t get it from the system he seeks vengeance on all involved. Clyde sees the Assistant DA Nick Rice (Fox) making an under-the-table deal with one of the murderers on the courthouse steps and is so full of rage he decides that he will find his own way of making it right.

Clyde is arrested when one of the murderers ends up dead after being released from prison. He tells Rice that if he doesn’t fix the broken justice system for him and his family, Rice’s family will be killed. From his jail cell his threats become a reality and Rice must right his wrongdoing before his family pays the ultimate price.

Fans of this movie have said that this is one of the best movies of the year and many enjoyed the action and suspense of the movie. The movie took on a “Saw” mentality with the mystery of how Butler is executing the murders from inside his prison cell.

Unfortunately, some critics did not give the movie a very good review. Some critics said this wasn’t one of Butler’s best movies and that the audience could hear his Scottish accent through his American intonation. Foxx also has done a lot better in other films. His character was very one-dimensional and uninteresting.

Now the envious side of me feels like Butler isn’t the bad guy. After watching my wife and daughter get murdered and see the justice system fail me in this fashion, I can’t say I wouldn’t do the same thing. Butler takes on a Hannibal Lecter persona and really puts a lot into this character.

He is always a few steps ahead of everyone, even Rice. There were parts of the movie that seemed to drag at times, but overall this was an awesome mystery/action movie.

Despite reviews from critics, this is a must-see movie that is definitely worth your money. “Law Abiding Citizen” is not like any movie you have seen before, so grab your friends, girlfriend or boyfriend or whoever and go see this movie. This movie opened Oct. 16, and is playing in almost every area theater.
