A Changing World, a Changing Simpson
September 22, 2010
Dear readers of 2060, How have the last 50 years been?
It’s hard to imagine what the world will be like 50 years from now; it seems as though much has changed in the last 10 years alone. We recently witnessed the election of our first African-American president, Barack Obama, some Americans are still quietly healing from 9/11 while others threaten to burn Korans. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are changing the world – one adoption at a time, and the Chicago Cubs have yet to win a World Series.
But forget the world, let’s talk about the changes at Simpson College.
Simpson is involved in a massive movement to be more modern. The Blank Performing Arts Center will soon see a finished 17,000-square-foot expansion, Brenton Student Center will see enormous upgrades with a new campus center and the college is moving against the grain to become more sustainable.
A new curriculum will be implemented next year to provide a cutting-edge education to match the state-of-the-art facilities.
Simpson’s 150th year is more than a testimonial to the dollars, hours and construction projects. It reflects the faces and names that have walked the brick sidewalks, the graduates that go on to medical school to save lives, the lawyers who seek justice and journalists who seek truths.
The world in 2060 will most likely be unrecognizable to the eyes of us who are currently in 2010. However, the world will probably be an even better place because we had all been a part of it.
Congratulations, Simpson College, and here’s to 150 more.
