Swim team has record-breaking meet

Both Simpson college men’s and women swimming teams finish next to last place in the Grinnell invitational Jan.18 and Jan.19.
The Simpson college men’s swimming team finished sixth out of seven schools in this weekend’s invitational. The Storm were able to edge out Coe College by scoring 211 points to Coe’s 174. The Storm also had several swimmers break school records in this weekend’s meet.
Freshman Kyle McKim placed 11th in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and broke his own school record in the 200 breaststroke. Also fellow Freshman James Tillison set another school record by swimming the 1,650 freestyle relay in 19:24.
Sophomores Nathan Schneider, Stephen Schmidt and freshmen James Tillison and Scott Wailes broke the school record in the 400 freestyle relays. Tillison, Wailes, Schmidt and sophomore Steven Best also set a school record in the 400 medley relay.
The Simpson college women finished 10th out of 11 teams with a total of 104 points. They managed to edge out Saint Mary College for 10th place in this weekend’s invitational.
Sophomore Hannah Yarbrough placed 26th in the 1,650 freestyle. Freshman Christina Amburgy finished 24th in the 100 freestyle and placed 30th in the 200 freestyle. The Storm also managed to finish 18th overall in the 800 freestyle relay.
The Storm next swimming dual meet will be Jan.25 vs. Iowa Lakes Community College. The dual will begin at 6 p.m.
