Sold Out Home Free Concert

The American country a cappella vocal band, Home Free, performed Friday, Jan. 31 in the Principal Black Box on the Simpson campus.
On Friday evening, the Black Box was sold out with people anxiously awaiting the concert to begin. Home Free performed as part of CAB’s weekly event for students.
The winner of the 4th season of NBC’s “The Sing-Off”, Home Free has performed for professional sports teams, for Fortune 500 companies, on cruise lines, at countless country fairs and on many college campuses such as Simpson.
This country a cappella group is currently on their Home Free College Tour, visiting several colleges across the country before they begin their Sing-Off Tour in New York on Feb. 19.
Home Free performed their renditions of several country hits such as “Cruise” by Florida Georgia Line, “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash and “Little Bit of Everything” by Keith Urban. They also sang renditions of popular hits like “Wake Me Up” by Avicii and “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz.
Five very talented singers make up Home Free. The tenors are Austin Brown and Rob Lundquist. The music director and baritone for the group is Chris Rupp, and his brother, Adam Rupp, is the extraordinary vocal percussionist of the group. The final member is Tim Foust. He is the bass of the group and has a near-five-octave range.
These five men have been singing together since 2011, and each of them have been involved in music since a young age, according to the Home Free Vocal Band website.
The Home Free concert was not only about the music; it was also full of humor and entertaining banter between the band members.
The members of Home Free each sang their guilty pleasures, which included songs like “Baby” by Justin Bieber, “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen and “Friday” by Rebecca Black.
Each member of the group had a chance to show his unique skills and abilities. For example, Austin had a breakout rapping moment and there was an amazing solo by the beatboxer, Adam.
Overall, Home Free’s performance was a successful event from CAB. Home Free’s singing was spectacular, and it was intermixed with comical moments that kept it entertaining and light.
