The Black Tie Ball is a success at Simpson

Around 250 handsomely dressed people danced the night away Saturday, Feb. 22.
The name of this year’s winter formal was “The Black Tie Ball,” and it was held from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. RLC, CAB and Residence Life have been in charge of the winter formal for the last two years.
Senior Jazmin Rubel, a Residence Life representative said that last year “there was a conversation about Greek organizations having formals, and we should do a dance for students who are not part of Greek organizations and make it an all-campus event.”
Last year, it was very successful with a masquerade theme and around 250 students attending.
Sophomore J.J. Hansen, a Residence Life representative, described this year’s dance as having a “new twist” but with the “same kind of flavor.”
RLC representative Tricia Ingram said, “I am looking forward to the opportunity to get a bunch of people together to dance and have fun.”
With a Black Tie theme, it was recommended students dress up, but not required.
“We strongly encourage students to take advantage of this opportunity to dress up, but we recognize many may not have the means or desire to dress up,” Rubel said.
“The Black Tie Ball” was very elegant with great decorations and a tasty chocolate fountain with several different foods to coat in chocolate. There were also many appetizing snacks such as cheese and crackers, cupcakes, artichoke dip and much more provided by Chartwells and the sponsoring organizations.
“There was a great atmosphere, and Chartwells did a really good job catering,” freshman Jess Lamb said.
Ingram said this year they moved the dance floor to the middle of the floor. “We are hoping a lot more people will be up and active than last year,” she said.
They achieved that goal, because the dance floor was never empty due to its front and center location and the DJ, which was an addition this year.
Another freshman, Chezlie Johnson said, “The DJ played great music, and it was really fun to take a bunch of pictures in the photo booth with my friends.”
A favorite part for many was the photo booth. There were several different crazy accessories used in the photos, and people could take as many photos as they wanted.
Overall, “The Black Tie Ball” was a success and many people had a great time.
