Whether it’s been from the pitching staff or at the plate, the Simpson College softball team has got what they’ve needed in every game this season, and it was no different Tuesday.

The Storm knocked off Muskingum University (3-3 , 9-1 in game one of the day and then got three runs in the fifth inning to beat Thomas More College (1-5), 3-1 in game two.

Riley Fisher pitched the complete game in game one, improving to 7-0 while also earning the save against Thomas More as Abbie Van Vleet matched her at 7-0 on the season.

Game 1: W – Simpson 9, Muskingum 1

Simpson won the run-rule shortened, six-inning affair, 9-1, with Muskingum as Fisher scattered five hits, striking out one as Tori Haag, Ashley Prettyman and Grace Hall all knocked in two runs.

Van Vleet started the scoring for Simpson, driving in Hailey Jensen in the first inning putting Simpson up 1-0.

Neither team scored until the fourth inning when Muskingum tied it up at 1-1 on a Dakota DeAmicis RBI single.

Simpson broke loose in the top of the sixth, scoring six to widen a 3-1 lead to 9-1 as they hit their way to a mercy rule victory.

Van Vleet and Jensen both recorded three hits as the Storm pounded out 14 hits in total, striking out only twice.

Game 2: W – Simpson 3, Thomas More 1

The offense was slightly more sparse in game two for Simpson, although stellar pitching kept the winning streak alive for the Storm, getting a three-run fifth inning to top Thomas More 3-1 in the day’s second game.

Thomas More outhit the Storm 8-7, but Van Vleet came through with some clutch pitching, scattering all eight hits with the help of three strikeouts and a Fisher, two-inning save, to give Simpson the 16-0 record.

The next closest team in the IIAC in terms of record and games played is Luther who is 8-0.

Despite being unearned, the scoring consisted of a Hailey Jensen, 2 RBI double followed by an Ashley Prettyman RBI single, her third RBI on the day, to give Simpson the win.

Thomas More scored one in the fifth before Fisher sealed up the game with the save.
