“People We Meet on Vacation” is a romantic comedy about two best friends, Poppy and Alex, who take a trip together every summer. They built a strong friendship over the years, even though the two are very different. Something goes wrong during one of their vacations, and they stop talking to each other.
Two years later, Poppy would then ask Alex to go on a trip one more time, hoping to fix their friendship. On the trip, old memories and hidden feelings resurface between the two.
Romantic comedies are not my favorite genre. In my opinion, they are typically very predictable; however, this romantic comedy surprised me. It was a much deeper and better comedy than I expected, as it showed the importance of friendship. The way they build an awesome friendship is one of the main reasons why I liked this movie so much.
One thing I really liked was how natural the relationship between Poppy and Alex felt. Poppy is loud, adventurous and loves new experiences. On the other hand, Alex is quiet, calm and prefers the simple things. They understood each other very well, and their conversations felt real, even though they are complete opposites. There was great chemistry between the actors, which made the connection feel real and believable.
The movie switches between their current vacation and memories from previous vacations. I think this was a great idea, as it shows how their relationship changed over time. Even though it may have been a little confusing at times, I really liked it. The flashbacks made the story more interesting, as it was about years of shared memories rather than one trip.
Another reason I enjoyed the movie so much was because of the setting. The vacation locations were beautiful, making the story feel more exciting and warm. It felt as though the audience was traveling with the characters. The music was also a great part of the movie; it matched the mood of the scenes, whether they were funny, emotional or romantic.
Just like in every movie, there were a few small weaknesses. Sometimes the story felt a little slow, and I think the characters could have solved their problems faster by simply talking to each other and being honest. While sometimes it was a little bit predictable, this still did not ruin the movie for me.
Overall, “People You Meet on Vacation” positively surprised me. Romantic comedies are normally not my favorite genre, but this movie changed my perspective. The movie was not just about romance, but also friendship and learning to be honest about feelings. The movie felt real; the audience can easily understand the characters and their struggles.
I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone who likes romantic movies. Even if you normally don’t like romantic comedies, give this movie a chance, and maybe you will be positively surprised.
