Simpson Women’s Basketball Head Coach Brian Niemuth reached 700 career wins earlier this season. Coach Niemuth has had a historic career and continues to win each year. He expects a lot from each athlete and every team he coaches, and will always find ways to win.
Coach Niemuth began his career at Simpson in 1987 and has been coaching ever since. He said over time his coaching approach has greatly changed.
“The game has changed so much, so staying up with the changes has been fun. I’ve been through just about every scenario in a game you could think of so the experience helps,” he said.
During his time at Simpson, Coach Niemuth has become the most decorated coach in the American Rivers Conference, and nationally ranks with the seventh most wins as an active head coach and tied for 15th in all-time wins total in the Division III record books.
Coach Niemuth did all this while leading his former teams to 13 total conference titles and 12 NCAA national tournament appearances. He also appeared in three Sweet Sixteen games throughout his career. Niemuth has been named A-R-C Coach of the year nine times, and was given the D3Hoops.com National Coach of the Year award two times.
After coaching for almost 40 years, Niemuth has created many different memories; however he was very humble when talking about his success.
“I’ve had a ton of memories that I’ve enjoyed over the years and they are all about team-player success.” Niemuth said. “I’m so thankful for all the great players I’ve coached and how much they put into this program. I’ve been very lucky.”
Coach Niemuth sits in sixth in the Division III record books for the most seasons coaching with an active team. Loyalty has especially through his leadership.
Simpson Women’s basketball continues to be on the right side of games this season as they began with a record of 9-7 overall and 5-2 in conference play so far. They hope to make a return to the conference tournament and possibly acquire another title and national tournament appearance under Coach Niemuth’s belt.
