Ask Millie: Concerned Callie
November 13, 2019
Dear Millie,
My roommate recently learned her dog back home passed away. She’s been really sad lately, as she was really close to the dog.
She’s been moping around our room. I’ve tried to do things to cheer her up like inviting her to meals with our friend group or offering to binge a TV show with her. She usually turns me down.
What should I do to comfort my roommate during this time? I hate seeing her so sad.
Sincerely,
Concerned Callie
Dear Concerned Callie,
Continue inviting your roommate to do things with you. She may not always accept, but at least you’re making her feel included.
Check up on her and make sure she’s doing alright. Ask her if there is anything you can do to help her feel better.
Suggest having her go to the counselors on campus. They are equipt to help in situations like this. Making an appointment is free and easy.
It’s going to take time for her to feel better. Losing a pet can be hard, as pets can feel like family. Be patient and continue to be supportive.
Yours Truly,
Millie
